This rectangular silvered metal medal by Ovide Yencesse depicts a woman kneeling before a priest taking communion with a man standing behind her his hands clasped in prayer. There are pillars and arches, presumably of a church in the background. It is signed O Yencesse in the top right hand corner but the reverse is blank.
The rim is stamped J Fonson. The medal is in the impressionist style typical of Yencesse.

Ovide Yencesse 1869 -1947
Born Dijon.
Initially destined for the priesthood by his family he was encouraged to develop his artistic talent by a priest and so attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Dijon.
Initially he leant towards sculpture and religious medals but after moving to Paris in 1891 he was advised to concentrate on medallic sculpture by H Ponscarme.
He won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition and was made a Legion d'Honneur.
From 1919 - 1934 he was the director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Dijon
